The intimate, 3-star Royal Orchid Beach Resort is located in South Goa – quieter and more idyllic than the north – and a stone’s throw away from Utorda Beach. This isn’t a beach you will find widely recommended in guidebooks or publicised in travel brochures. But it’s not crowded, has powder white sand and swaying palm trees – all the characteristics of paradise on earth.
The hotel has a winding pathway, surrounded by greenery either side, that leads to the beach within minutes. On the lush grasslands either side of the walkway, there are secluded spots of individual huts with professional therapists providing treatments such as massages.
The hotel can organise return airport transfers from Goa airport. The journey takes about 30 minutes.
An additional extra that is thrown into any holiday in India is the warmth of the Indian hospitality. Even after a year of first staying at this wonderful property, the staff recognised me and welcomed me like an old friend. And even the endearing ladies who sell handcrafted goods on the beach remembered me and served as a reminder that some good things never change.
The hotel also has its own restaurant, outdoor pool, fitness centre and spa facilities.
What’s the damage?
£112 – £249 per room per night. The hotel also offers 3 night / 4 day packages including airport transfers, breakfast, dinner, sightseeing tours and discount on spa treatments.
