The Banyan Tree range of boutique hotels are renowned for their exquisite designs that are luxurious whilst embracing their local surroundings. The Banyan Tree Phuket is a pioneering property within the brand’s collection.
The hotel includes transfers to and from Phuket airport. The Banyan Tree has their own designated lounge area in the airport where you can wait for your transfer. You are then transported to the hotel in an air conditioned car complete with warm towels and mineral water. The journey takes just 30 minutes.
Location, location, location
The resort is located in the upmarket area of Laguna, alongside luxury hotels such as Sheraton Grande and Laguna Beach Resort and with its private entrance to Bang Tao beach. The hotel is about a 30 minute taxi ride from the bustling area of Patong.
I stayed in a stunning pool villa which was the size of a small apartment, with its own full-length swimming pool surrounded by a manicured garden and a traditional Thai sala. There was also a private outdoor area with a marble sunken bathtub.
The hotel has a choice of five restaurants serving varying cuisines throughout the day. My favourite was the Sala Terrace which offers seafood dishes and faces the tranquil lagoon that surrounds the resort.
I spent my birthday at this resort. And if this wasn’t the perfect birthday present in itself, the resort staff left me a card, delicious chocolate birthday cake and gifts on the table when I arrived. The staff even wished me happy birthday as I passed through the corridors and reception area.
The spa is widely recognised to be one of the best in the world and it certainly lives up to its reputation. Many therapists are trained at the spa academy here and go on to be connoisseurs of their field. The spa has an organic, outdoor feel and the treatments are rejuvenating and professionally carried out.
Thailand is affectionately known as the land of smiles and the staff were testament to this trait.
